DON'T LEARN SAFETY BY ACCIDENT
SHINING
by: Mr. Eric Stephen B. de Quiros
“The light that shined upon the summit now seems almost to shine at our feet.” - Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924), U.S. President.
Just a while ago, the sun was shining brightly. Now, the skies are dark again like shadows of the night, telling me that it will rain anytime soon. I’m glad that I brought an umbrella and hope you did, too.
“Umuulan na ho ba?” I asked my officemate, who was leaving the library. “Hindi pa.” she replied, and I breathed a sigh of relief.
This sudden and abrupt change in the weather has been happening these past weeks. Since this is primarily caused by climate change, I ask myself:
Have I been doing anything to help prevent climate change?
The answer is a resounding yes. Because, I’ve realized that:
-
I turn off and unplug my electric fan every morning before leaving for the office.
-
After I use my computer, I shut it down, instead of just logging off.
-
When I go home, I walk to Trinoma, instead of taking the pedicab. This serves as my daily exercise.
These are included in the last article I made, which described simple and easy ways anyone can apply in his/her home, work, and/or lifestyle to help prevent climate change.
As I look out my window, I see the sun shining brightly again. Maybe there is a connection with the things I’m doing to this development.
I invite you to join me.
So the sun will continue shining.
